Laura Secord is considered a Canadian heroine because she bravely walked 32 kilometers (20 miles) behind enemy lines during the War of 1812 to warn British forces of an impending American attack. Her action was instrumental in helping the British and their Mohawk allies prevent an American invasion at the Battle of Beaver Dams.
