#ProudCanadian over here remembering a true Canadian hero 🦸♂️
In 1921, Dr. Frederick Banting, along with Charles Best, made one of the greatest medical breakthroughs in history—the discovery of insulin right here in Canada! Before this, a diabetes diagnosis was often a death sentence, but thanks to Canadian ingenuity and determination, millions of lives have been saved worldwide.
Banting refused to profit from the discovery, instead ensuring insulin would be widely available to those who needed it. Frederick Banting and his co-inventors, Charles Best and James Collip, sold the patent for insulin to the University of Toronto for a symbolic price of $1 each. Frederick Banting, who then received the Nobel Prize at age 32, is the youngest Nobel laureate for Physiology/Medicine. This is a true Canadian legacy—one of innovation, compassion, and a commitment to improving lives. 🍁
